The Back-Up Provider System (BUPS) provides short-term temporary caregiving services to IHSS/WPCS Consumers who have urgent personal care needs that their regular provider cannot meet, or if a consumer is being discharged from the hospital or care facility and have been referred by IHSS/WPCS program social workers.
Circumstances that would qualify as urgent include:
- Being discharged from the hospital or another care facility without anyone at home to help.
- Your regular Provider is unexpectedly unavailable
- You have an urgent personal care need that your regular provider cannot meet
If you feel you are in need of a BUPS caregiver, call your IHSS/WPCS social worker, who will determine if you qualify for a BUPS referral.
